“Monochromatic Dreams” in Berlin Gallery Weekend

In the “Monochromatic Dreams” series, Vian Borchert presents her latest paintings where the artwork transforms into memories of past travels that have become almost like distant dreams. The paintings depict abstracted glimpses of NYC with its tall skyscrapers, it’s city streets while the fog and the mist take over the dreamy city. All of these elements mélange together in the artist’s grayscale palette that becomes a metamorphosis turning the memories into monochromatic dreams.

Escapism is the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.

Escapism is a series of artwork where artist, Vian Borchert, finds herself transported into her daydreams and imagination while falling more into her art and art creation. The artist states that “it is almost deliberate the need to escape this reality that one finds oneself living in. Although it is hard to escape the harsh truths of our COVID-19 times; yet, I find my mind wandering into a world of imagination and dreams. Art for sure facilitates my escape into my own created world where self expression and gestural energy reign supreme. The zen like approach of creating art helps me escape into my own wonderland where it’s a breezy stroll by the sea while the birds sing up above.” Borchert feels that the confinement has aided her escapism and birthed much meaning to the word. The latest paintings become a metamorphosis of journeys that the artist would like to embark upon. The capture of good feelings and memories through composition, color and form all mélange together to help the artist escape the difficult aspects of our current times. Borchert exclaims that “It is through the process of creation that I find myself stepping away from the fear of the shadows of death that plague our existence. Through my artistic journey, it becomes clear to me that it is through art I have found the greatest escape!”
