ART FORMOSA, Taipei, the Stunning Display

ART FORMOSA 2017 integrates the well-received, solo-show-based Formosa 101 Art Fair and the two-year-old hotel art fair Formosa Art Show. It will take place at eslite hotel and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park (No. 2 & No.3 Warehouse) during June 29th (Thurs.) to July 2nd (Sun.). 80 selected art galleries and 400 artists mainly from Asia will be presented such as Ninagawa Mika, Kwon Hyun Jin and Hang Chunhui to create a lager dialogues of contemporary arts. This summer, ART FORMOSA will take a leap forward in generating influence in Taiwanese art industry and Asian art world.

ART FORMOSA 2017, recognized by International media, features prominent galleries from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Russia, and New York, 24 first time participating galleries including Tomio Koyama Gallery which introduced Yoshimoto Nara and Takashi Murakami to the broad audience, Gallery Yamaguchi Kunst-bau, ASHIYAGARO Kyoto, Gallery MAC and uJung Gallery as well as Taiwanese galleries, more than 40, such as LIANG GALLERY, Da Xiang art space, Haohaus, Luminance Art Space and J. P. ART CENTER.

CONTEMPORARY ART SECTION, Multiple Visual Experience

This section is situated at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, comprising Curatorial Sector and Gallery Sector. The cu ratorial solo-show project will present 8 Asian galleries with the represented artists: ADMIRA, the keen observer of Japanese contemporary sculptors, with Ken’ichiro Taniguchi, Gallery Yamaguchi Kunst-bau with TAKASHI SUZUKI who tackles the perceptual method of photographic image, G13 gallery with Kow Leong Kiang, uJung Gallery with Kwon Hyun Jin, the artist of abstract painting, Da Xiang art space with Hang Chunhui and HOU Shanhu focusing on Chinese contemporary ink painting, and YIRI ARTS with HASUWA Tomoko who vitalizes painting with thinking.

 

The Gallery Sector features at most three artists in a gallery: Tomio Koyama Gallery with Japanese artists Ninagawa Mika, Tomoko Nagai and Midori Sato, LIANG GALLERY with Taiwanese contemporary artists Hu Chautsung, Kuo Borjou, Lee Chungchung, Wang Leo, Hsu Changyu and Yu Yalan, TOSEE Art with Hsu Mingjen and Chen Huanzhen, ARTDOOR Gallery with Awang Damit AHMAD, the Malaysian multi-medium artist, Hong Kong artist Lai Chiman and Taiwanese artist Chang Juipin, as well as Gallery KHAN KHALAEV from Russia, HG CONTEMPORARY ART CENTER from New York and Keumsan Gallery from South Korea.

Video Sector curated by Lo, He-Ling seeks to juxta pose the Taiwanese new media arts by inviting the works of Lin Peichun, Zeng Yujuan, Hu Jinxiang, Huang Zhijie, Wu Yizhong, Lin Jingyao, Zhao Pinxun, Chen Yichun, etc.

The TW-JP Collector-Exchange Program hosted by ART FORMOSA and the distinguished Warehouse TERRADA is made possible by the Taiwanese and Japanese collectors with their selected collections originated from and significant to the other country: the works of the important Taiwanese artists owned by Japanese collectors, the works of Gutai group collected by Taiwanese collectors and so on.

CONTEMPORARY AND MODERN ART SECTION
This section at eslite hotel is divided into Classic and Focus, Up and Coming, and Limited and Unlimited, participated by more than 50 galleries. Classic and Focus covers numerous topics, as Imavision Gallery brings the works ofJapanese artist Okumura Akira featuring the wandering psyche travelling the cosmos in Japanese painting. There is an apparent increase in the number of participating galleries in Limited and Unlimited. 19 galleries will present the artists under the age of 40, focusing on Asian Pacific artists of high potential. Art Ile organizes the solo show of Taiwanese artist Yi Yen whose figurative sculptures incorporate the abstract concepts. KOKI ARTS from Japan selects Hideo Takashima’s birdy-shaped sculptures, the mouth of bottle on which blurs the distinction of fiction and reality. Gai Art Gallery highlights Wang Tingyu’s oil paintings and Fan Inkuan’s sculptures to be on view. Up and Coming proposes the artworks of limited editions including photography, video and installation. There will be Qin Art Gallery, BOSS art gallery, ASHIYAGARO kyoto, and Bright Reading Art Project in this division. One of the highly-expected talks of Art Forum is the conversation between the two collectors Miyatsu Daisuke and Yao Chien. The movie ”MY DEAR ART” produced by Mr. Yao will be played in this session. More information about Art Forum will be announced by the Committee soon.

ART FORMOSA is open to the public June 30 – July 2, 2017. Tickets can be purchased on site at the show venue, or online at ACCU PASS and Books.com. Early-bird tickets are now on sale, we suggest visitors buy the ticket first to enjoy the discounts. With the E-ticket, you can exchange the paper ticket at the information desk before entry.
